Doc McDuke's Books for Kids!

Wonder, by Palacios

Wonder is a rare gem of a kid's novel--intricately written and chock full of characters who stick pleasantly in your mind and heart. August Pullman is a 10-year-old boy who likes Star Wars and Xbox, ordinary except for his jarring facial disfigurement. Homeschooled all his life, August goes off to public school for fifth grade and he's not the only one transformed by the experience--something we gather first-hand through the narratives of those who orbit his universe. August’s thoughts and interactions with students and family feel right, and though genuinely courageous he comes across as a sweet, amusing kid who desires the same things others want: friendship, understanding, and the chance to be himself. This book must be read with the heart. The message is invisible to the eye.
